Executive Search Malaysia
Retained executive search for C-suite, regional leaders, and senior specialists
Confidential search for Country Heads, CFOs and functional leaders in the Malaysian market, run from Kuala Lumpur under JTKSM Licence C No. 1432. At this level the credible field is small and most of it is not applying, so we map it rather than advertise into it.

Approach by name and under non-disclosure, qualify, then present a shortlist you can interview.
4

Executive search in Malaysia, built on 24+ years
At Country Head and C-suite level the Malaysian market is small enough that the credible field for a given mandate is often a few dozen people. Most of them know each other, and none of them are answering advertisements. That makes two things decisive: reaching them by name without the search becoming common knowledge, and telling a genuine move from a counter-offer waiting to happen. Our Kuala Lumpur practice runs through Agensi Pekerjaan People Profilers Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. under JTKSM Licence C No. 1432, with researchers who have followed the same careers from senior manager to board level across more than one cycle.
Two engagement models for executive search
Every mandate starts with a scoping conversation, and which model we recommend usually comes down to how visible the search can afford to be. If the incumbent is still in the chair, or the sector is one where the Kuala Lumpur leadership circle is small enough that word travels, retained is the safer structure. Where several credible candidates already exist and speed matters more than discretion, a success fee works.
Retained Search Model
- ✓Fee paid in three staged instalments (typically 30% at engagement, 30% at shortlist, 40% on commencement)
- ✓Exclusive mandate with dedicated researcher capacity
- ✓Confidential market mapping; passive candidates approached by name
- ✓Best fit for confidential replacements, C-suite, Country Head, and Board appointments
- ✓Three-month replacement guarantee from the candidate’s start date. Staged fees are non-refundable once each milestone is met
Success Fee Model
- ✓Fee payable only on candidate commencement, calculated as a percentage of Total Annual Remuneration
- ✓Lower upfront commitment, faster initial activity
- ✓Best fit for senior roles where multiple credible candidates are likely and speed matters more than confidentiality
- ✓Same partner-led process, shortlist standards, three-month replacement guarantee, and 6-month follow-up as retained
- ✓Minimum Fee applies regardless of placement TAR
Both models reference Total Annual Remuneration as narrowly defined in our engagement letter. For a Malaysian package that means fixed salary and contractual allowances, and it excludes equity, LTIPs not paid in the first twelve months, and discretionary bonuses.
What decides a Malaysian executive search
Three things separate a search that closes from one that stalls, and in this market two of them are about the offer rather than the sourcing.
A brief that admits the hard part
The strongest mandates start with what actually went wrong. The incumbent left under conflict, the band sits below what a Klang Valley multinational would pay for the same scope, or the role means relocating to Penang or Johor. We would rather price that in during week one than discover it at offer stage.
A package that survives comparison
A Malaysian offer is rarely judged on basic salary alone. Candidates weigh employer EPF, fixed allowances and bonus history together, and senior people routinely benchmark against what the same role pays across the causeway. We normalise those numbers before the offer goes out rather than after it is declined.
An offer that survives the counter
Counter-offers are routine at this level in Malaysia, and an employer facing a leadership gap will move within days. We work on the candidate's real reason for leaving throughout the process so the decision is settled before the resignation is tendered, then stay in contact through a notice period that is commonly two to three months.

Executive headhunters in Kuala Lumpur and across Malaysia
If you found us by searching for executive headhunters in Kuala Lumpur, you are in the right place. Headhunting and executive search are the same discipline. Both mean discreet, research-led approaches to senior leaders who are not answering advertisements.
Our headhunters work from Kuala Lumpur under JTKSM Licence C No. 1432, mapping and approaching candidates in the Malaysian market rather than working a CV database, with locally incorporated entities in five Southeast Asian markets when a search crosses borders. Whether you brief us as a headhunter agency or an executive search firm, the engagement runs the same way: a defined mandate, a mapped market, and a shortlist you can interview.
Frequently asked questions
Who is Agensi Pekerjaan People Profilers Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.?
Agensi Pekerjaan People Profilers Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. is the executive search arm of People Profilers, a Southeast Asia HR group founded in 2002 with Malaysia operations established 2023. We hold JTKSM Employment Agency Licence C No. 1432 and run executive search engagements for C-suite, Country Head, and senior leadership mandates across Malaysia and the wider region.
What seniority levels do you cover?
Our executive search practice, operated under Agensi Pekerjaan People Profilers Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and JTKSM Licence C No. 1432, focuses on Director through C-suite mandates: Country Heads, Managing Directors, CFOs, CHROs, COOs, CIOs, Heads of Sales, Heads of Engineering, and Board-level appointments.
For Manager and Senior Manager mandates, we typically engage through our General Recruitment team - same licensed entity (APPPMY, JTKSM Licence C No. 1432), with a higher-volume mid-level hiring methodology under a tiered placement fee model.
Is executive search retained or contingent?
Both. We offer two engagement models and recommend one based on the role's seniority, urgency, and confidentiality requirements.
Retained Search - fee paid in three instalments (typically 30% on engagement, 30% on shortlist, 40% on candidate commencement). Exclusive mandate, dedicated researcher capacity, confidential market mapping. Best fit for confidential replacements, C-suite, Country Head, and Board appointments. Three-month replacement guarantee from the candidate’s start date. Staged fees are non-refundable once each milestone is met.
Success Fee (Contingent) - fee payable only on candidate commencement, calculated as a percentage of Total Annual Remuneration. Lower upfront commitment, faster initial activity. Best fit for senior roles where multiple credible candidates are likely and speed matters more than confidentiality.
Each engagement starts with a scoping conversation so we can recommend the right model.
How long does an executive search take?
Eight to fourteen weeks from kickoff to a signed offer is typical, and the variable is rarely sourcing. Mapping a Malaysian senior market is quick because it is small. What moves the date is stakeholder availability, and then the notice period, which at Director and C-suite level here is commonly two to three months and occasionally longer.
Confidential replacements, board appointments, and mandates where the successful candidate is a foreign national needing an approved Employment Pass before starting will run past that window. We flag any of these during scoping so the date you plan around is the realistic one.
Do you handle confidential replacement searches?
Yes, and in a market this size it is most of the reason clients retain us. The credible field for a Malaysian Country Head or CFO role is small enough that an open search tells the incumbent, the competitors, and often the candidate's current board. We approach under non-disclosure, brief researchers on what may and may not be said, and do not reveal client identity in the market until you authorise it.
References, candidate dossiers, and longlist materials are shared only with the named stakeholders agreed at kickoff.
What is the difference between a headhunter and an executive search firm?
In practice, nothing. “Headhunter” is the everyday name and “executive search firm” is the formal one for the same service: proactively identifying and approaching senior candidates who are not actively applying for roles. Our Kuala Lumpur headhunters run retained and success-fee mandates for Director through C-suite roles under JTKSM Licence C No. 1432.
Do you offer a replacement guarantee?
Yes. Every executive search placement carries a three-month replacement guarantee from the candidate’s start date, on both retained and success-fee engagements. If the placed candidate leaves within that period, we run the replacement search free of charge. Full terms are set out in your engagement letter.
